Question 1 of 6

So, what's the Boiler Upgrade Scheme actually worth to you?

It exists because of a simple piece of government policy: cut household energy costs and make the country's homes more energy efficient by helping people swap old fossil-fuel boilers for modern low-carbon heating.

What you get

£7,500 off the cost of an air source heat pump, or £9,000 if you're replacing oil or LPG heating. It's paid straight to your installer and comes off your bill. No income test, no means test, nothing to pay back.

What it costs and saves

Most homes end up contributing £2,000 to £4,000, about the price of a new gas boiler, and you can spread it over up to 15 years. In return you get heating that turns one unit of electricity into three to four units of heat, built to run for around 20 years.

Why now

The higher £9,000 rate for oil and LPG homes is only guaranteed until 31 March 2027, and the scheme's pot is topped up year by year. Once it's spent, it's spent. Checking what your home qualifies for costs nothing.
